Complexes with tridentate ligands
Project staff: Andreas Dürrmann
This project deals with the synthesis of tridentate, Schiff base-like ligands and their 3d transition metal complexes (mainly iron, copper, or zinc complexes). The electronic environment of the metal centre can be influenced by introducing different substituents on the ligand backbone.
The obtained substances are characterised considering their magnetic properties, focusing on a possible super exchange (copper complexes) and spin crossover (iron compounds). Additionally, the copper complexes are investigated considering their cytotoxicity (in cooperation with Prof. Schobert, OC I, University of Bayreuth). The zinc compounds are suitable catalysts for the ring-opening polymerisation of lactide (in cooperation with Prof. Herres-Pawlis, RWTH Aachen).
